Medasin‘s latest remix takes on the lead single, “When Am I Gonna Lose You” from indie rock band Local Natives‘ fourth studio album Violet Street. Converting the upbeat indie number into a lush soundscape tinged with downtempo elements, Medasin masterfully remakes the original track into an infectious slow jam reminiscent of sleepy, summer nights.
Isolating the vocals and peppering the track with delicate synth lines, the new remix carries the crooning qualities of a sensual ballad throughout, while evoking dreamy qualities with the use of swelling chords. Dancing Astronaut‘s Breakout Artist of 2018 carefully employs drums in crafting the progression of the track, with most of the production devoid of them; when the drums finally kick-in during the chorus, the track transforms into an almost R&B-esque breakdown only to quickly dissolve into ambiance again. Delivering a smooth listen of ebbs and flows, the Medasin remix dyes “When Am I Gonna Lose You” with simmering waves of nostalgia.
