Dave Sanchez a.k.a. 7up, originally hailing from Ohio, made the move to Pittsburgh and proceeded to take it by storm. For longer then many can remember the name 7up has been synonymous with the house scene dropping his unique mixing style at thousands of events and every major nightclub in Pittsburgh and major cities around the States.
He started Steel City Funk, one of the first major DJ and production teams in Pittsburgh consisting of himself and DJ Brad “Elysium” Thomas. Over Dave’s history he has brought many new styles of house to Pittsburgh including Speed Garage in 1997, to the short but sweet 2-Step trend that came and went with the millennium, right up the present incarnations of deep and funky house which he rocks on the dance floor, leaving a trail of satisfied party goers in his path. As anyone will attest to, Dave’s performances are nothing short of AMAZING and filled with positive energy which is translated to the people who come to see him play. Dave later brought his skills to the mixing desk, producing a full-length album with Rusted Root alumni Patrick Norman called “Digital World”.
Dave also has done a song with Jes-One that was played by Seb Fontaine on BBC’s Radio 1. More recently he’s done remixes for Mars “Feel The Jam” under the alias Infin8 Loop as well as Johnny Fiasco’s The Reflex using his Alias Dr. Sound System. In a city known for little more than the Steelers, blue collar workers, and beer, Dave has played a role in representing a vibe of the city with a new generation of people from all over making Pittsburgh their home, and with that bringing a global love of house music.
Dave has helped arm a number of up and coming producers and DJs with bi-monthly info sessions bringing in respected producers and DJs and providing a place to learn, collaborate, and be part of the scene. In return for helping others, his good deeds were rewarded twice, with the Pittsburgh City Paper naming 7up “Best DJ” in 2006 and 2007. Armed with the latest in music production technology and the finest collaborators, Dave Sanchez ( DJ 7up) continues to work on dance floor rocking tracks always with the goal of pushing the limits of house.
