Djs From Mars mashes up Childish Gambino with Beethoven

Set for inclusion in their BOOTZILLA Vol. 4 compilation, Djs From Mars mashed up two seemingly incongruous pieces of music: Childish Gambino‘s “This Is America,” and the second movement from Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

Composition wise, the two may indeed have little in common. Contextually, however, the two converge on a number of levels — the most notable being how Beethoven’s ninth was the focal point of the 1971 dystopian film A Clockwork Orange, based on Anthony Burgess’s novel by the same name.

Just as Chilidsh Gambino’s “This Is America” video depicts the coinciding violence and frivolity of our country, Clockwork is a similarly philosophically-charged, social commentary about the inevitably violent nature of those who grow up in modern society.

The Djs From Mars bootleg cuts between the two video clips, displaying the equally egregious acts of violence from each work, while a fervent beat ironically charges the visuals forward.
