Exclusive: Watch Mr. Oizo’s bizarre visual accompaniment for Handbraekes’ ‘Discow’Handbraekes Sebastien Garnier

Late in October, the estimably eccentric duo of Boys Noize and Mr. Oizo reunited to deliver Handbraekes #3, their first EP under their eponymous side project in four years. And, though Quentin Dupieux and Alex Ridha have cultivated enough appreciation for their peculiar partnership to easily justify a full-time gig as Handbraekes, the two artists have remained predictably busy with their individual endeavors in the weeks since.

While Ridha has released further music under his Boys Noize and ELAX monikers, Dupieux has lent his non-musical talents toward directing a quirky video short to act as an accompaniment to “Discow,” the lead track off Handbraekes’ most recent record. Standing under a minute in length, the clip revolves around a disembodied, animated simulacrum of Mr. Oizo’s head, which lip-syncs the song’s lyrics placed alongside various angles by a car’s handbrakes. Equal parts amusing and unsettling, the track’s visual accompaniment harkens back to his similar efforts surrounding his 2016 All Wet LP. Indeed, short and whimsical as it may be, it reinforces his multimedia status as an absurd auteur.
