The year is 2014, and Aussie prodigy Flume had well established himself within the upper echelon of dance talent after pioneering future bass to new heights. Following a successful Lockjaw EP with Nick Murphy, he’d been booked for his first Coachella to rinse his new material for a legion of adoring fans.
Coachella, like Ultra, is a huge platform for any up-and-coming artist, and Flume entered the packed-out Gobi tent armed with far more tricks up his sleeve. Emoh instead and other collaborators showed up for cameo appearances, and a load of IDs made their way into the fold. Perhaps one of the most historic moments of Flume’s Coachella debut, however, was when he dropped one of his biggest re-works to date.
This tune in question was his rendition of Lorde’s “Tennis Court,” which had never been played out to a crowd until that very moment arrived in Weekend 1. With its wild drop and clever sound manipulation, the tune became an instant hit. Energy within the tent was palpable, as excited ravers watched history unfold. Even better—Lorde eventually co-signed the remix, solidifying Flume’s position as a powerhouse pop collaborator in addition to an expert producer.
