Billboard: Ultra Music Festival Cancelled For 2021

Ultra Music Festival in Miami will not take place this year, according to Billboard.

Ultra was the first major festival to cancel in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will once again see the same fate as the virus remains rampant in many parts of the US.

In a letter this week from Ultra’s attorney, the organization’s intent to cancel was based on the virus’ continued threat. According to Billboard, the letter requested new dates for their license at Bayfront: “We anticipate that the City will again invoke the Force Majeure clause” in the license agreement to stage Ultra at Bayfront Park, York wrote. Because the license requires the festival to take place over a single weekend in March, “we respectfully request the rescheduled dates to be March 25, 26, and 27, 2022.”

It’s unclear if the City of Miami will approve the permit for the future event, but it is said that’s what’s holding up the formal announcement of this year’s cancelation from Ultra.

Ultra was plagued with criticism due to it’s refund policy (or lack thereof) and stirred up harsh words from ticket-holders when Ultra gave them only 30 days to decide to rollover their tickets to 2021 or 2022. The case is still in arbitration.
