Chicago’s historic multi-day festival, Lollapalooza, has officially been declared a non-super-spreader event in reference to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Allison Arwady, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health, only 203 positive cases resulted from the event which welcomed 385,000 attendees over four days.
“We’ve had no unexpected findings at this point. There’s no evidence at this point of a super spreader event, and there’s no evidence of substantial impact to Chicago’s COVID epidemiology,” Arwady said.
All attendees of Lollapalooza had to either show proof of vaccination or provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of entry. Large scale promoters including AEG Presents and Live Nation will soon adopt similar standard to all of their events and venues.
Overall, this is excellent news as festivals continue to reopen all around the country and world. It clearly demonstrates that events of similar size can move forward without adversely affecting their communities.
