Midnight Kids might look a little different aesthetically, but Kyle Girard never gave anyone a reason to doubt that the project’s output going forward would hold up to the same standard. After Dylan Jagger Lee broke the news that he would be “moving in a different musical direction,” effective immediately as of this past January, Girard was left to hold the reigns on the now-solo handle, reassuring everyone that its story was a long way from its final chapter. Now swapping out “are” for “is,” Girard is partnering with Yueku to self-release the first Midnight Kids original since The Lost Youth EP, “Out Of Time.”

“Out Of Time” is the full Midnight Kids package from end to end. Although the former duo spent the months that would follow the EP honing its remix craft, Girard moves into the driver’s seat to simultaneously revitalize Midnight Kids’ characteristic recipe for original material while effortlessly pushing the project’s into its next era. Connecting a nostalgic, 2000’s-esque build and Yueku’s reflective vocals, “Out Of Time” is a worthwhile first step into whatever the future may hold for Midnight Kids.
