New York City Lifts Nearly All COVID-19 Restrictions

Restrictions have been lifted as a result of 70% of adult New Yorkers receiving the first dose of a COVID vaccine

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that New York City will lift all COVID-19 restrictions for retail, food services, offices, gyms, barbershops, and other services as a result of 70% of New Yorkers over the age of 18 receiving the first dose of a COVID vaccine. The State’s health guidance procedure specifies that “social gathering limits, capacity restrictions, social distancing, cleaning and disinfection, health screening, and contact information for tracing are now optional” for all services listed above.

Individuals who are unvaccinated must continue to wear a mask to comply with federal CDC guidelines. The State’s health guidelines also state that masks will still be required for “large-scale indoor event venues, pre-K to grade 12 schools, public transit, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, nursing homes, and health care settings.”

Since New York City has lifted nearly all COVID-19 restrictions, businesses can now choose between lifting all restrictions or chose to implement their own. New York City was one of the first cities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic when it swept the globe last year, however, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York City had the lowest COVID positivity rate in the United States and have hit a desired 70% vaccination “ahead of schedule. ”
