The mayors of Boom and Rumst have refused the license application necessary to host Tomorrowland later this summer
Organizers of Tomorrowland have faced some very unfortunate news today, as mayors of Boom and Rumst have refused the license application necessary to host Tomorrowland 2021, which was scheduled to take place on August 27-29 and September 3-5. The decision to refuse the approval of the necessary license application was because of “the lack of publication of the Ministerial Decree regarding maximum capacity.” According to the mayors, only events of up to 400 people can legally be allowed.
Even though the mayors of Boom and Rumst have refused the license application necessary to host Tomorrowland later this summer, Tomorrowland can still go to the Council of State to dispute the decision. This is the second year in a row Tomorrowland has not been able to occur due to the implications of COVID-19.
Earlier this month, we reported that the Belgium government had approved outdoor events of up to 75,000 people starting on August 13, which would have been two weeks before Tomorrowland Weekend 1. According to the Belgium government at the time, attendees at large outdoor events would be required to present a COVID-19 “safety ticket” or a negative COVID-19 test prior to the event. Now, it is looking like Tomorrowland will have to wait a third year to host its next in-person event, even though an official statement from the festival has not been made as of now.
Tomorrowland spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen disclosed that fans who have tickets for this year’s Tomorrowland can hold onto their tickets for next year’s event.
