Only 6 attendees tested positive for COVID-19 in the two weeks after the event
Last week, 5,000 fans were able to enjoy a concert at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi arena as part of a series of piloted test events. The idea of the test events was to investigate and study attendee behavior to get a better understanding of how infections could be avoided at large-scale events. The results of the test event were immaculate, as all 5,000 attendees tested negative for COVID-19 before the event, and only 6 attendees tested positive for COVID-19 in the two weeks following.
Although social distancing was not enforced, attendees were required to wear a mask at all times. All attendees were required to take a COVID-19 test both before and after the event. Of the 6 attendees who tested positive for COVID-19 in the weeks following the event, at least 4 likely contracted the disease outside of the concert.
Last week, we reported that Ibiza will not be requiring a COVID-19 test for tourists this summer, as the General Secretary of Digital Health, Alfredo González, confirmed that Spain will be joining the European Union’s ‘Digital Green Certificate‘ program sometime in June. Now, with Spain’s test pilot events reporting low numbers of continuous infections, the return to everyday life seems just months away.
