Malaa had zero intentions of ever publicly sharing his rework of “In The End,” but he decided to post a preview of it anyway to get a social litmus test on if it was worth finishing or not. Nearly 2,000 comments came in that gave a collective “yes,” and Malaa immediately brought his take of Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory classic with him for the remainder of his 2021 shows—including San Diego’s OMFG! NYE—with the crowd reaction only reaffirming that he should release it. And so Malaa did just that, now delivering it in the form of a free SoundCloud download.

Nothing can ever hold a candle to Linkin Park’s 2000 original, but Malaa does justice in paying homage to the late Chester Bennington with his spin more than two decades later. Moving Linkin Park from alt-rock over to his one-of-a-kind brand of ominous house, the masked Frenchman repurposes both Bennington and Mike Shinoda’s nostalgia-filled vocals that gives him a seamless avenue into planting it throughout his sets this year.
