DETROIT, May 17, 2011- Movement Electronic Music Festival attendees will be able to take a break from the beats pulsating throughout Hart Plaza May 28-30 to explore the landmarks of Detroit Techno with bike tours provided by Wheelhouse Detroit.

Wheelhouse Detroit, located on E. Atwater Street along the Detroit River, will guide the two Techno-themed bike tours they have dubbed “Techno in the 313.”

The first will be on Sunday, May 29 from noon to 4 p.m.  It will be the “long” tour that will go for as many as 21 miles taking riders past historic electronic music sites like The Music Institute, Underground Resistance HQ, and the Packard Plant.  The tour price is $30; with bike rental it’s $40. This “long” tour is recommended for more experienced riders.

The second will be Monday, May 30 from noon until 3 p.m. It will be the “short” tour. A rider will see landmarks such as The Music Institute, Underground Resistance HQ, and the East Riverfront Warehouse District.  The tour price is $25; with bike rental it’s $35.

RICARDO VILLALOBOS ANNOUNCED FOR MOVEMENT FESTIVAL IN DETROIT VIA FACEBOOK

DETROIT, May 20, 2011—The ‘Secret Artist’ placeholder on the Movement Electronic Music Festival schedule was announced via the festival’s official Facebook page at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.  The post said: “Ricardo Villalobos is the ‘Secret Artist.’  He WILL be in Detroit to perform at MOVEMENT May 29th and at the Voyage Royale: I’m on a Boat 3 afterparty. Villalobos, a world-renowned microhouse and minimal techno DJ/producer, last performed in Detroit in 2002 when he played live at Paxahau Electronic Music Festival (PEMF), a four-day party that was held at the former Panacea Nightclub in downtown Detroit.

Paxahau originally released the Artist Set Schedule on May 12, but in the Sunday, May 29 vitaminwater stage slot inserted ‘Secret Artist’ as a placeholder, which created a lot of buzz and speculation in social media spaces since then—and is the reason festival organizers decided to release Villalobos’ scheduled performances via the festival’s official Facebook page.

PAXAHAU OFFERS NEW INTERACTIVE ‘TECHNOLOGY CENTER’ FOR
MOVEMENT ELECTRONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL, MAY 28-30 IN DETROIT

DETROIT, MAY 26, 2011–You cannot have electronic dance music without technology, and this is why a new feature of this year’s Movement Electronic Music Festival will be an interactive Technology Center where attendees can check out, test and purchase electronic music production/performance hardware, software and accessories.

The Technology Center will be a first in the 12-year history of the three-day event. The 2,500square-foot indoor area will be located in the underground area of Hart Plaza, across the hall from the Movement Torino stage (see attached map).

Festival organizers Paxahau have formed a partnership with Allen & Heath, Vestax, Novation, Focusrite, Mono, Alpine, Wharfedale Pro and Moog to be able to bring the center to the festival.

“The Technology Center has been designed to be similar to a trade show,” said Jason Huvaere, director of operations for the Movement Electronic Music Festival.  “Festival attendees will have a chance to see reps demonstrate how the industry’s newest technology and equipment works, and in some cases they will be able to test it for themselves.  We expect this will be a popular new addition to this year’s event.”

Some of the products attendees can expect to see in the Technology Center include:

  • MIDI Controllers
  • Audio Interfaces
  • Synthesizers

The Technology Center will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day of the festival, and an itinerary of scheduled presentations and demonstrations will be made available.  Organizers also say festival-goers should expect to see some of the artists performing at Movement browsing through the Technology Center.  Entry will be allowed to any festival attendee.

34,820 ATTENDED FIRST DAY OF MOVEMENT ELECTRONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL

DETROIT, MAY 29, 2011—A record crowd attended the first day of the Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit.  Saturday’s official attendance figure was 34,820.

The crowd total for Saturday is the largest one-day figure the festival has had since becoming a ticketed event in 2005.  Previously the standing record was about 31,000.

Day two of Movement begins at noon on Sunday, May 29.  The headliner for vitaminwater’s main stage is 69 (Carl Craig) performing live.  The headliner for Beatport stage is Loco Dice.  The headliner for the Made in Detroit stage is Delano Smith.  The headliner for the Red Bull Music Academy stage is Aux 88 performing live.  The headliner for Movement Torino stage is Marcel Dettmann performing a DJ set.
