DETROIT, May 20, 2011—The ‘Secret Artist’ placeholder on the Movement Electronic Music Festival schedule was announced via the festival’s official Facebook page at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.  The post said: “Ricardo Villalobos is the ‘Secret Artist.’  He WILL be in Detroit to perform at MOVEMENT May 29th and at the Voyage Royale: I’m on a Boat 3 afterparty. Check for more info.”

Villalobos, a world-renowned microhouse and minimal techno DJ/producer, last performed in Detroit in 2002 when he played live at Paxahau Electronic Music Festival (PEMF), a four-day party that was held at the former Panacea Nightclub in downtown Detroit.

Paxahau originally released the Artist Set Schedule on May 12, but in the Sunday, May 29 vitaminwater stage slot inserted ‘Secret Artist’ as a placeholder, which created a lot of buzz and speculation in social media spaces since then—and is the reason festival organizers decided to release Villalobos’ scheduled performances via the festival’s official Facebook page.

DETROIT, MAY 26, 2011–You cannot have electronic dance music without technology, and this is why a new feature of this year’s Movement Electronic Music Festival will be an interactive Technology Center where attendees can check out, test and purchase electronic music production/performance hardware, software and accessories.

The Technology Center will be a first in the 12-year history of the three-day event. The 2,500square-foot indoor area will be located in the underground area of Hart Plaza, across the hall from the Movement Torino stage (see attached map).

Festival organizers Paxahau have formed a partnership with Allen & Heath, Vestax, Novation, Focusrite, Mono, Alpine, Wharfedale Pro and Moog to be able to bring the center to the festival.

“The Technology Center has been designed to be similar to a trade show,” said Jason Huvaere, director of operations for the Movement Electronic Music Festival.  “Festival attendees will have a chance to see reps demonstrate how the industry’s newest technology and equipment works, and in some cases they will be able to test it for themselves.  We expect this will be a popular new addition to this year’s event.”

Some of the products attendees can expect to see in the Technology Center include:

  • DJ Mixers
  • MIDI Controllers
  • Audio Interfaces
  • Synthesizers

The Technology Center will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day of the festival, and an itinerary of scheduled presentations and demonstrations will be made available.  Organizers also say festival-goers should expect to see some of the artists performing at Movement browsing through the Technology Center.  Entry will be allowed to any festival attendee.
